Conversion Rate

Conversion rate is the share of website visitors who take the action you want, like calling or booking. It is how you tell whether traffic is paying off.

Conversion rate is the share of your website visitors who take the action you want, whether that is calling, booking, filling in a form, or buying, divided by everyone who came. It is usually written as a percentage: the count who acted over the count who visited.

For a small business, this is the number that tells you whether traffic is actually paying off. You can double your visitors and earn nothing new if none of them act, so a steady conversion rate often matters more than a raw visit count. It is where a clear call to action, a page that loads fast, and copy that answers the visitor’s real question do their work. A well-built landing page exists almost entirely to move this number, and a high bounce rate is often the first sign it is leaking.

You can watch your own conversion rate once you decide what counts as an action worth measuring. I build sites so the path from landing to that action is short and obvious, because a visitor cannot convert on a page that hides what to do next, or makes them wait to find out.
