Template vs. Custom

Template vs. custom is the choice between a ready-made design you fill in yourself and a site built from the ground up to fit your business exactly.

Template vs. custom is the basic build decision every business owner faces: start from a ready-made design you drop your words and photos into, or have a site built from the ground up to fit your business exactly. A template is the faster, cheaper start. Platforms like Wix and WordPress themes give you a polished layout in an afternoon, and for plenty of businesses that is genuinely enough.

The tradeoff is that a template is a shape someone else drew. You fit your business into its structure, other sites use the same one, and the parts you most want to change are often the parts it holds fixed. A custom build runs the other way: the design starts from how your business actually works, and nothing on the page is there just because a theme shipped with it.

Neither is the right answer for everyone. A website builder or a good theme on a content management system is a sound choice when budget is tight and the need is simple. I build custom because a rebuild can fit a business in a way a template cannot, but the honest question is which one your business actually needs right now.
